METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods for removing chewing gum from concrete usually depends on how long the gum has been there and level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the chewing gum was left recently and it has not penetrated the surface, we might be able to remove it by covering it with ice until the gum freezes, then scraping the gum off with a putty knife.

The ice forces the chewing gum to freeze into a workable substance compared to a gooey and stringy mess. Once that happens, we slide a metal putty knife or scraper directly under the gum. Then we move the scraper slowly under the gum and the entire piece should then peel right off of the concrete.

The above method is only possible with gum that is brand new.

When we remove chewing gum that is already black, or is smashed deep down into the concrete surface, we use a hot water pressure washer with the heat dialed up to 200 Degrees in order to melt the chewing gum. For this type of gum removal service, we do not use very high pressure because that might ruin the surface of the concrete!

Our crew never uses any more pressure than necessary to safely clean concrete surfaces. These types of surfaces can be damaged a lot easier than people think, especially if they’re only a few years old. Concrete can take up to 100 years to cure. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our gum removal service.
